Strengthening Professional Profiles in Correctional Education – PROMOTE Webinar Highlights Methodology for Inclusive Upskilling

On 10 April 2024, the EBSN hosted a highly engaging international webinar to showcase the core methodology developed within the PROMOTE project – a transnational initiative focused on upskilling professionals working in and around correctional settings. The event attracted over 60 participants from across Europe and beyond, including adult learning professionals, basic skills practitioners, experts from the probation and prison education sectors, and other key stakeholders.

The PROMOTE methodology, rooted in the DACUM approach, offers a structured way to map professional profiles, identify key competencies, and determine training needs. The webinar gave participants the opportunity to experience this hands-on: after an introductory presentation, attendees worked in small groups to define the core duties, tasks, and skill areas relevant to their own roles. These insights were then brought together in a plenary discussion, providing a comparative view across national and institutional contexts.

Many of the professional profiles addressed in the project support learners who are at risk of social exclusion – often with significant basic skills gaps. Participants reflected on the importance of trauma-informed practice, emotional resilience, and learner-centred approaches, alongside the need for intersectoral cooperation with justice and rehabilitation services. The PROMOTE approach was seen as a concrete and adaptable tool for shaping inclusive upskilling strategies.
