On 5 November 2025, the German National Coordination Point of the European Agenda for Adult Learning, in cooperation with AEWB Niedersachsen, will host the conference “Designing Learning Spaces in Basic Education” in Göttingen, Germany.
The event will explore how learning spaces can be designed to inspire participation and motivation in basic education. Experts from Germany and across Europe will share research-based insights and hands-on experience on how the environment — physical, social, and digital — can shape learning outcomes for adults with basic skills needs.
The programme includes a keynote by Prof. Dr. Simone C. Ehmig (Free University of Berlin) on learning motivation in the everyday lives of adults, as well as five thematic workshops:
- The European Café – Co-creating Basic Skills Education
- Learning in Context – Enabling Discovery through Local Learning Spaces
- The Future of Learning is Human
- Rethinking Literacy – Designing Learning Spaces with AI
- Europe as a Learning Space – Enhancing Basic Skills through Erasmus+
A project market will also showcase good practices from Germany and across Europe, offering participants opportunities to network and exchange ideas. The plenary sessions will be translated into English, and selected workshops will also be held in English, making the event accessible to a wider European audience.
Participation is free of charge and open to all professionals engaged in basic skills education.
