How can we ensure that adults have the basic skills they need to learn, work and participate fully in a rapidly changing society? And who shares responsibility for making this possible?
These questions will be at the heart of the EBSN Annual Conference & General Assembly 2027, taking place in Hamburg, Germany, on 12–14 May 2027, in cooperation with the University of Hamburg.
Under the theme “Adult Basic Skills in a Digital Age: Shared Responsibilities for Learning, Inclusion and Participation”, the conference will explore how digital transformation, artificial intelligence and changing societal demands are reshaping the landscape of adult basic skills.
But the conversation will go well beyond technology. From literacy and numeracy to workplace learning, social inclusion, innovative teaching practices and democratic participation, Hamburg 2027 will offer space for diverse perspectives and experiences.
A particular focus will be on shared responsibility and practical solutions: what works, what challenges remain, and what can be learned and adapted across different countries and contexts?
Building on previous EBSN conferences, we aim to create opportunities for meaningful exchange between policymakers, practitioners, researchers, educators, employers and civil society — connecting ideas, evidence and practical experience.
The Call for Contributions is expected to be launched in mid-November 2026, inviting proposals from across Europe and beyond.
Stay tuned for further announcements and opportunities to contribute!
