Illettrisme, Grande Cause Nationale 2013

logo_for webOn March 1st this year, a group of 66 French stakeholders in our field, led by our French EBSN member, the ANLCI, obtained from the French Prime minister the Label Grande Cause Nationale.  The label “grande cause nationale” is given each year to a different cause (autism and suicide are past examples).  Once an issue has been given the label, all governmental organizations are invited by the prime minister to support this cause according to their different possibilities. For example, since yesterday the national public TV channels are broadcasting a publicity spot to make the public aware of the illiteracy problem. The TV campaign has been made for free by a French communication agency.

Within the frame of the Cause Nationale, the ANLCI is organizing an important conference in Lyon on November 13th, 14th and 15th. The conference will be both national and European, and the Commission is going to participate actively. The French organizers have kindly included a presentation of the EBSN in the program, and all members are hereby invited to check with their National Agencies the possibility of getting funding for their participation. It would be great to see a large EBSN delegation in Lyon!

Although the afternoon workshops  will be held only in French, the plenary sessions on Wednesday afternoon, on Thursday and Friday morning and the Thursday afternoon session (on assessment) will be bilingual English/French with simultaneous translation.
