Description
State Vocational Education Institute (ŠIOV) is an agency of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic in charge of vocational education and training in Slovakia (methodological, pedagogical, guidance and coordination tasks). The Institute is the national guarantor of vocational education and training (VET) in the network of secondary vocational schools in the Slovak Republic. It includes Referent and the Slovak Centre of Practice Enterprises).
Since 2014, ŠIOV coordinates the National Qualifications Database and fulfils the tasks of a contact point for the EU initiatives related to VET – the European Qualifications Framework, EQAVET (European Reference Framework for Quality Assurance in VET) and ECVET.
Since 2018, ŠIOV has become the National EUROPASS Centre, EPALE National Support Service and the National coordinator of the European Agenda for Adult Learning.
The change of the governance structure of the LLL in Slovakia has brought new responsibilities for the Institute in this area, mainly towards the agenda of key competences.
SIOV has also extensive experiences in implementation of EU-funded projects, including large-scale ESF-funded national projects, Erasmus+ projects, etc.
National/International Impact
Staff members of the Institute sit in various national and international bodies, e.g. Advisory Group of the EC for the European Qualifications Framework, CEDEFOP, various working groups established by the Europena Commission or other institutions. ŠIOV is a member of the Slovak Adult Learning Institutions´ Association and EUROPEN – European Practise Enterprises Network and coordinates the national teams for Euroskills.
